Céline Dion returned to full length live performances Saturday in Paris, opening a 26-show residency after a six year absence linked to her health condition. Dion’s comeback marks her first full concert run since her 2020 performance in New Jersey.
Her touring career was later disrupted by the diagnosis of stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that forced her to step away from regular performances.
The 58 year old singer began Saturday’s show in a black gown before changing into a trouser suit during a set that mixed major ballads, French-language songs and more theatrical moments.
The Guardian noted that several songs, including “Because You Loved Me,” “The Power of Love” and “My Heart Will Go On,” were performed in lower keys.
Despite those adjustments, Dion demonstrated that her powerful voice remains central to the performance.
The Guardian highlighted her lower-register work on “Dansons” and an especially strong delivery of “Tout l’or des hommes,” while also noting a rougher vocal texture on some songs.
Dion’s emotional reaction became one of the defining moments of opening night. After beginning the concert, she told the audience she had promised to return to the stage and became tearful during the performance.
