Alan Ritchson and Catherine “Cat” Ritchson have announced that they are ending their marriage after two decades together.
The couple shared a joint statement on Instagram on Sept. 12, describing the decision as a move toward a different relationship while emphasizing their continued commitment to their family.
The couple said they want to remain supportive of one another and focus on raising their three sons.
Their children are Calem, 13, Edan, 12, and Amory, 10. Ritchson, 43, and Catherine also asked for privacy and compassion as the family adjusts to the change. Their relationship began when they were teenagers.
Ritchson told The Hollywood Reporter that the two met around a ballet class while they were in high school and later worked together on a play. They initially went their separate ways before reconnecting years later.
Ritchson and Catherine married in 2006 and eventually built their family in the years that followed. Their first son, Calem, was born in 2012, followed by Edan in 2013 and Amory in 2015.
Family Remains Their Priority
In their statement, the couple said their years together remain meaningful and described friendship, respect and effective co-parenting as priorities.
They also said they want to give each other space to grow while protecting their sons from unnecessary public attention.
Catherine has continued to publicly support Ritchson’s acting career in recent months. In July 2026, she shared a family photo from an appearance connected to his promotional activities.
Ritchson is best known for playing Jack Reacher in the Prime Video series Reacher. Entertainment Weekly reported that representatives for the actor were contacted for additional comment.
The separation comes as Ritchson has been promoting the fourth season of Reacher, along with upcoming projects including Motor City and Runner.
The announcement places the actor’s family life alongside an active period in his professional career.
