Glee Revival Confirmed for Disney+ and Hulu

Glee is officially returning with new episodes on Disney+ and Hulu, but the revival’s premiere date and original cast lineup have not yet been announced.

The revival marks a new chapter for Glee, the musical comedy-drama that originally aired on Fox from 2009 to 2015.

The series followed students at fictional William McKinley High School as they navigated school life through performances with the New Directions show choir.

Although the new episodes have been confirmed, Disney+ and Hulu have not disclosed a release date or named any returning cast members.

Ryan Murphy, who co-created the original series with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, previously confirmed that he had written a revival script with his collaborators.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Murphy said he had been in contact with around 10 original cast members and described their responses as enthusiastic.

However, their participation in the new series has not been officially confirmed. The revival also comes as the original cast continues to reflect on the show’s legacy.

Lea Michele, who played Rachel Berry, previously said she would be willing to return, describing the series as something that holds a special place in her heart.

Chris Colfer, who portrayed Kurt Hummel, offered a more cautious perspective in an interview with Bustle.

He said he had not heard anything official about the revival at the time of the interview and noted that continuing the show would be difficult following the death of Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez and died at 33 in 2020.

Rivera was one of three prominent Glee cast members to die after the series premiered. Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, died in 2013, while Mark Salling, who portrayed Noah Puckerman, died in 2018.

The original series became known for combining school-based storylines with musical performances and themes including sexuality, race, disability and mental health.

Its covers of established songs also helped introduce older hits to younger audiences.

For now, the revival’s confirmed destination is Disney+ and Hulu. Details about its storyline, premiere date and cast remain unannounced.
