Chad Powers Season 2 is now streaming on Hulu, bringing new characters into Russ Holiday’s increasingly complicated attempt to maintain his football disguise.
The second season picks up after Russ Holiday, played by Glen Powell, successfully reinvented himself as Chad Powers, a fictional identity created to give his college football career another chance.
His disguise has helped him become a sensation on the field, but greater attention is creating new problems away from it. The series began with Holiday as a talented but disgraced quarterback who needed a fresh start. Inspired by a Mrs.
Doubtfire poster, he developed the idea of transforming himself through a disguise before appearing at an open tryout for the South Georgia Catfish.
Chad eventually earned the starting quarterback position, while Danny, the school’s mascot played by Frankie Rodriguez, helped him maintain the deception.
His relationship with assistant offensive coach Ricky, the head coach’s daughter played by Perry Mattfeld, also became complicated after she discovered who he really was.
New Characters Raise the Stakes
Season 2 introduces several people who could make Chad’s situation considerably harder to control. Colin Woodell joins as Jay, a wealthy and charming Catfish alumnus recruited by booster Tricia, played by Wynn Everett.
In college football, boosters can provide substantial financial support to athletic programs and may exert influence on decisions involving teams and coaches.
Gillian Jacobs plays Jerri, the sister of backup quarterback Gerry. Jerri is described as a devoted Catfish fan who believes Chad taking her brother’s quarterback position is part of a conspiracy.
Her involvement adds another person actively questioning Chad’s place on the team. Comedian Carey O’Donnell makes his acting debut as Mr. Brent, the new Catfish cheerleading head coach.
His arrival also creates complications for Danny, whose mascot duties have previously allowed him to help Chad.
Nate Varrone plays Dustin, a man whose West Virginia residence becomes part of another lie when Russ needs to provide an explanation for where Chad supposedly lives.
As more details from the false identity accumulate, people who were not originally involved can become connected to the deception.
The series was co-created by Powell and Michael Waldron and developed from the Chad Powers character introduced through Eli Manning’s Eli’s Places show.
The original concept featured Manning disguising himself as a walk-on quarterback. Steve Zahn, who plays head coach Jake Hudson, said the series appeals to him because it combines realistic performances with deliberately absurd situations.
He also described the second season as becoming more focused and specific while retaining its unusual blend of sports and comedy.
All six episodes of the second season are available to stream on Hulu, continuing Chad’s football career as his public profile grows and more people become involved in the secret behind his identity.
