Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set for a fresh assessment of their UK security arrangements after returning to Britain with their two children.
The Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as RAVEC, is preparing to reassess the level of police protection available to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle now that the family is living in the UK rather than visiting.
The committee includes representatives from the Home Office, police and Royal Household. According to reported, its assessment will examine potential threats as well as the family’s regular movements, including travel routes and school journeys.
The review comes after Harry previously challenged the decision to limit his publicly funded police protection in Britain while he was living in the United States. His return with Meghan and their children has created a different set of circumstances for authorities to consider.
Children Change Schools Over Security Concerns
Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, switched schools only two days after starting the new term. PEOPLE reported that the decision followed discussions between the family and their security team about the practicalities of the existing arrangements.
HELLO! reported that the concern was linked to traffic and the distance between the school and the family’s home rather than the school itself.
Security personnel had reportedly assessed the school during the summer, but the daily journey could only be evaluated once classes resumed.
A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said the parents remained grateful to the teachers and staff and stressed that the move was not a reflection of the care the children received.
RAVEC Review Includes the Children
The upcoming assessment is expected to consider security arrangements for Archie and Lilibet as well as their parents. Harry reportedly underwent a risk assessment earlier in the summer, before the family’s return to Britain was known.
For Meghan, the process represents her first such UK security review since the couple stepped back as working royals in 2020.
Family Settles Into Life in Britain
The security developments come as the Sussexes establish their new routine in the UK. Meghan recently shared footage showing the family spending time outdoors together, including walking, fishing and playing in the countryside.
Separately, Harry was told that Uganda will participate in next year’s Invictus Games after concerns about the country’s involvement were resolved following discussions involving the King’s private secretary and Uganda’s military leadership.
