María Vargas of Jalisco has Been crowned Miss Universe Mexico 2026, taking the national title on Aug. 29 at Rancho Tierra Sagrada in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.
Vargas emerged from a field of 32 candidates representing Mexico’s states. Mariana Macías of Michoacán finished as first runner-up, while Fernanda Abaroa of Guerrero was named second runner-up.

Her professional background extends beyond pageantry. Vargas studied International Business and is also an author. Her book, Miss Trouble, addresses criticism and judgment she experienced during her career.
During the final stage, Vargas outlined the message she wanted to carry with the title. Referring to Bosch’s legacy, she emphasized both speaking against injustice and listening more closely to others.

Fátima Bosch’s Reign Ends
The victory formally ended Bosch’s year as Miss Universe Mexico. Before the result was announced, Bosch reflected on completing her national reign and representing Mexico.
Bosch later won the 74th Miss Universe pageant on Nov. 21, 2025, in Thailand.
Vargas is scheduled to represent Mexico at the next Miss Universe competition in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Nov. 24. Her preparation will include public representation, media responsibilities and international competition duties.
