Actor Tim Curry, best known for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has died at age 80 in Los Angeles, his longtime manager and friend Marcia Hurwitz announced Wednesday.
A cause of death was not immediately available. Curry previously suffered a major stroke in 2012. Curry’s performance as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show became one of his defining roles.
He also appeared in films including Annie, Clue, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and It.
Carol Burnett, who worked with Curry in Annie, shared a clip from the 1982 film and remembered him as a dear friend.
Susan Sarandon, his Rocky Horror co-star, praised Curry’s heart and his kindness toward fans.
Rob Schneider recalled Curry’s versatility while filming Home Alone 2, saying the actor would perform scenes in multiple ways to give directors different choices.
Curry’s Clue co-stars Michael McKean and Lesley Anne Warren also paid tribute, while Josh Gad, Jillian Bell and Jennifer Tilly remembered his influence and talent.
Broadway actor Luke Evans, who recently portrayed Frank-N-Furter, wrote that Curry’s work had influenced every actor who takes on the role.
Curry’s death marks the loss of an actor whose career spanned film, television and theater, with performances that remained influential across generations.
