Seattle Festival Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 5 Injured at Seattle Center

Two people were killed and five others injured after gunfire erupted during the Bite of Seattle festival at Seattle Center near the Space Needle, prompting a major police response and an ongoing homicide investigation.

According to Reuters, the gunfire broke out shortly before 6 p.m. local time near the International Fountain area, where thousands of people had gathered for the final day of the three day food festival.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots before crowds fled in panic as police officers and emergency medical crews rushed to the scene.

Seattle police confirmed that seven people were shot. Two victims later died from their injuries, while five others were hospitalized. Officials have not publicly identified the victims pending notification of their families.

Harborview Medical Center confirmed it received several patients following the shooting, including adults and a toddler. 

Hospital officials said one patient was in critical condition, while others were listed in serious or satisfactory condition.

Police immediately secured the area surrounding Seattle Center and launched a large scale homicide investigation. 

Officers searched for the suspect while detectives collected evidence, reviewed surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or released details about a suspect. Investigators also have not disclosed a motive or indicated whether the victims were specifically targeted.

The shooting forced festival organizers and law enforcement to close portions of Seattle Center while investigators processed the crime scene. Emergency vehicles remained at the location for hours after the attack.

The Bite of Seattle is one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest annual food festivals, attracting thousands of visitors with restaurants, live entertainment and family activities.

Seattle Center, located beside the iconic Space Needle, regularly hosts concerts, cultural festivals and community events, making it one of the city’s most visited public venues.

Reuters and the BBC reported that the casualty figures increased after victims were transported to hospitals, with authorities confirming two deaths and five injuries.

Police continued searching for the shooter overnight while homicide detectives reviewed security camera footage and appealed for witnesses to come forward with videos or information that could assist the investigation.

Authorities asked the public to avoid the area as forensic teams continued examining the scene.

The shooting has renewed concerns about security at large public gatherings, particularly events that attract families and tourists.

The incident also highlights the challenges facing law enforcement when responding to violent crimes in crowded public spaces, where rapid evacuations and emergency medical care are critical.

Seattle police said detectives were working around the clock to identify those responsible and encouraged witnesses to submit evidence.

Hospital officials confirmed multiple victims were receiving treatment following the shooting.
