Carla Jeffery, Disney’s ‘Zombies’ Star, Dies at 33

Carla Jeffery, who played Bree in Disney’s Zombies franchise and appeared in Shake It Up, died Sept. 1 at age 33, according to her management.

Jeffery’s death was announced Sept. 2 by Alexanders Talent Management, where she had been represented since she was 12.

Manager Carla Alexander said the agency had watched Jeffery develop over more than two decades and remembered her as a vibrant performer whose smile could brighten a room.

The agency also asked for privacy for Jeffery’s family and loved ones. No explanation for her death was provided in the statement, leaving the cause undisclosed.

Jeffery was born July 10, 1993, in Houston, Texas. She entered the entertainment industry as a child, making her film debut in the 2006 comedy Phat Girlz when she was 12.

Her early television work included appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm, Shake It Up, Good Luck Charlie and iCarly.

She later appeared in programs including Suburgatory, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Scream Queens, Best Friends Whenever and American Vandal.

Jeffery became particularly associated with Disney’s Zombies franchise after taking the role of Bree in the first film in 2018.

She returned as the character in Zombies 2 in 2020 and Zombies 3 in 2022, and also voiced Bree for Zombies: The Re-Animated Series.

Her work in the franchise connected her with a younger generation of Disney performers and audiences, making Bree one of the roles most closely identified with her career.

News of Jeffery’s death prompted tributes from several performers who worked with her.

Zombies co-star Chandler Kinney described her as a bright presence and praised her kindness, while Milo Manheim remembered her as one of the sweetest people he had known.

Descendants alum Jadah Marie also expressed shock and heartbreak, calling Jeffery a beautiful soul.
