Grammy nominated singer Kehlani has cancelled two North American tour dates after being hospitalized with a sudden illness that left her unable to swallow and in severe pain.
The 31 year old artist shared the update on Instagram on Aug. 26, saying she had felt completely normal during two days off before becoming seriously ill overnight.
After leaving the hospital, she said she was not medically cleared to sing at her next two performances.
The affected concerts were scheduled for Camden, New Jersey, and Columbia, Maryland. Both dates have since been rescheduled, with the Camden performance set for Sept. 5 and the Columbia show for Sept. 6.
Kehlani did not reveal a diagnosis or explain what caused the sudden illness. She apologized to fans, saying it was painful for her to cancel and that she follows a routine designed to maintain her health while touring.
The cancellations come during the North American leg of Kehlani’s current tour. She indicated that she hoped to return to the stage in Virginia on Aug. 29 as the tour continues.
Some fans expressed frustration over the late notice, particularly because of travel arrangements and ticket concerns. Others defended the singer’s decision to prioritize recovery rather than perform while sick.
Kehlani recently discussed her approach to maintaining her physical and mental wellbeing in a Billboard interview.
She described relying on a structured routine that includes medication, exercise, yoga, time outdoors and prayer to manage the demanding schedule associated with her career.
For now, the singer’s focus remains on recovery, while the rescheduled performances give fans in New Jersey and Maryland confirmed dates to attend.
