Two people were killed and 35 others injured after gunfire erupted at a homecoming block party in Vienna, Georgia, early Sunday, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 1:25 a.m. Sunday near Pine Street in Vienna, where more than 1,000 people had gathered for a homecoming block party. Dooly County sheriff’s deputies were already monitoring the event when gunfire was reported.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, shots were fired from the 900 block of Pine Street. Deputies responding to the scene found multiple people wounded and later located two deceased men in the 600 block of Pine Street.
The victims killed were identified by the coroner as men aged 20 and 23. Their families have been notified, but authorities have not released their names while the investigation continues.
The injured victims were taken to multiple hospitals in the surrounding area. Earlier reports cited varying numbers of wounded people, but the latest figure provided by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is 35 injured.
Authorities have not publicly identified a suspect or established a motive. The GBI is conducting the investigation, and the bodies of the two victims will undergo autopsies.
