Scott Eastwood has recalled a story from the set of A Perfect World in which Clint Eastwood reportedly dealt decisively with Kevin Costner after the actor remained in his trailer.
Speaking on Armchair Expert, Scott Eastwood described what he called a “legendary story” from the production of the 1993 crime thriller A Perfect World.
Scott acknowledged that he was paraphrasing the account and might not remember every detail precisely.
According to Scott, Costner was at the height of his rise to stardom when the incident occurred.
The actor, who played escaped convict Robert “Butch” Haynes, reportedly would not come out of his trailer for an unspecified reason.
Rather than allowing the delay to continue, Clint Eastwood, who directed the film and played Texas Ranger Red Garnett, told the crew, “Well, send him home then.”
Scott said Costner was surprised when he learned that the production had moved on without him. The next day, according to Scott’s account, Costner returned to the set prepared to work.
Scott connected the episode to a broader lesson he learned from his father. He said Clint avoided spending time in trailers and encouraged him to remain with the crew if he wanted to understand filmmaking.
A Perfect World* also starred Laura Dern and Bradley Whitford, placing the reported confrontation within a film that paired Costner and Eastwood in central roles.
Scott’s comments come alongside renewed discussion of Clint Eastwood’s long career. His son Kyle Eastwood recently said his father had retired from acting, describing their experience working together as a positive one.
