Presley Gerber, the model and only son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, died Sept. 20 at age 27 while at a rehabilitation facility, authorities said.
Gerber’s death was confirmed by a representative for his family, with CNN reporting that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office listed the rehabilitation facility as the location of his death.
The medical examiner had not publicly provided a cause of death. The family statement, shared with media including CNN and PEOPLE, asked for privacy.
TMZ separately reported that an autopsy had not yet been completed, leaving additional details about the circumstances of his death unconfirmed.
Born in California in 1999, Gerber followed his mother into fashion and began modeling as a teenager.
He made his runway debut for Moschino and later appeared in shows for Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Bottega Veneta, while also working with brands including Calvin Klein, Celine, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren.
Gerber was also represented by DNA Model Management, which described him as an investor and entrepreneur in addition to his modeling work.
His career placed him alongside his younger sister, Kaia Gerber, who has established her own career as a model and actress. Away from fashion, Gerber increasingly used his public profile to discuss personal struggles.
During a 2023 appearance on the Studio 22 podcast, he spoke about depression and mental health and said he wanted his experiences to help other people facing similar difficulties.
He later launched “Mental Health Mondays” and worked with organizations including A Sense of Home, according to DNA Model Management. His public discussions also included substance-use and recovery issues.
In March, Gerber described undergoing an ibogaine treatment in a social media post. PEOPLE reported that he characterized the experience as part of his efforts to confront addiction and regain control of his life.
Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychedelic associated with addiction treatment research, although its legal status differs by country.
Crawford had publicly supported her son during his struggles. After one of his earlier posts about mental health and medication, she wrote that he was loved and not alone.
Kaia recently discussed her brother’s addiction struggles in Vogue’s September 2026 issue.
She described the effect of the situation on their family and said Gerber’s willingness to speak openly had changed how the family approached difficult personal issues.
Gerber’s death comes after years in which he had used his public platform to discuss recovery and mental health. His family has asked for privacy as further official information remains unavailable.
