Deshaun Watson threw two touchdown passes as the Cleveland Browns overcame the Carolina Panthers 21-18 on Sunday, completing their second straight comeback victory.
Carolina led 18-13 with 4:25 remaining after Bryce Young connected with John Metchie III for an eight-yard touchdown. Cleveland responded with a 65-yard drive, capped by Watson’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Fannin with 1:48 left.
The comeback appeared to disappear when Akayleb Evans intercepted Watson in the end zone with 2:29 remaining. However, a roughing the passer penalty against Carolina linebacker Bobby Okereke erased the turnover and kept Cleveland’s drive alive.
Three plays later, Watson found Fannin for the go-ahead score. Watson then connected with Denzel Boston on the two-point conversion, giving the Browns a five-point cushion.
Watson struggled early, completing 10 of 21 passes for 67 yards through three quarters. He improved during the final period, going 6 of 9 for 77 yards while also contributing on the ground.
According to AP, Watson finished 16 of 30 passing for 144 yards. He added 45 rushing yards on 11 carries, while Fannin recorded seven receptions.
Young completed 26 of 48 attempts for 290 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Carolina also received four field goals from Ryan Fitzgerald.
Cleveland will host Pittsburgh on Thursday night. Browns coach Todd Monken said he expects a strong home atmosphere for the matchup.
