Charlie Cox says his six-year-old son was heartbroken to learn that Daredevil: Born Again will end after its third season, as the actor prepares to leave the Marvel character he has played since 2015.
Charlie Cox expected the end of Daredevil: Born Again to be emotional, but his six-year-old son’s reaction caught him off guard.
Speaking to PEOPLE at New York Comic Con on Oct. 8, the 43-year-old actor said his son had only recently begun embracing the idea that his father plays a superhero.
When Cox shared the news, his son’s face reportedly turned pale with shock. “I’m trying to prepare my son for it more than I’m preparing myself. He’s devastated,” Cox told PEOPLE.
The series is set to conclude with its third season, marking the end of a chapter that has spanned approximately 12 years of Cox’s career.

He first portrayed Matt Murdock in Netflix’s Daredevil, which ran from 2015 to 2018, before returning to the role in Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again.
Cox described the experience as a defining part of his professional life, estimating that he has spent around 70 hours portraying the blind lawyer and vigilante on screen. He also reflected on how much his personal circumstances have changed since joining the original series.
The actor met his wife, television producer Samantha Thomas, on the first day of Daredevil. They now have two children, a son and a daughter.
Cox offered a glimpse of Matt Murdock’s difficult position following the second-season finale, in which his identity was exposed and he was arrested.
He raised questions about the psychological effects of months spent imprisoned, publicly condemned and fearing for his life. The actor said Murdock had been trying to help people and protect his city, only to find himself at his lowest point.
Season 3 will also bring back familiar Marvel characters. Finn Jones was confirmed at New York Comic Con to reprise his role as Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist.
Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter, who appeared in the second season as Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, are also expected to return. The first two seasons of Daredevil: Born Again are available to stream on Disney+.
