Case Keenum started Chicago’s game against the New York Jets on Sunday, but Tyson Bagent replaced him on the second play with Caleb Williams still sidelined by a hamstring injury.
The Chicago Bears used both Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent early against the New York Jets on Sunday, creating an unusual quarterback arrangement after weeks of uncertainty surrounding the position.
Keenum, 38, started under center and handed the ball to D’Andre Swift on Chicago’s first play. Bagent then took over for the second play and remained the quarterback for the rest of the opening series.
Bagent completed five of seven passes for 62 yards on the drive, but Chicago failed to score after reaching the Jets’ 3-yard line.
Two apparent rushing touchdowns by Swift were overturned after replay showed he had been stopped short of the goal line. Bagent also threw incomplete on Chicago’s other two attempts from the goal-line situation.

The quarterback decision had been a major storyline for the Bears during the week because Caleb Williams was still dealing with a hamstring injury.
Keenum had started Chicago’s previous game against the Philadelphia Eagles, his first start in three years, and helped lead the Bears to a 27-7 victory.
Bagent, meanwhile, had not played against Philadelphia after spending most of the previous week in concussion protocol.
Bears coach Ben Johnson had declined to announce his quarterback choice before the Jets game, saying the decision would be based on which player gave Chicago the best chance to win.
Johnson had also emphasized his confidence in all three quarterbacks, while noting that Bagent had entered the season as the team’s No. 2 quarterback.
