C.W. Morgan, the actor who portrayed Hank Loomis, the father of Billy Loomis in the original Scream, has died in Los Angeles County. His cause and manner of death remain unknown.
C.W. Morgan, known to horror fans for his role in the 1996 film Scream, died in Los Angeles County over the summer. TMZ reported his death after reviewing medical examiner records that listed Aug. 30 as the date of death.
The circumstances, cause and manner of death have not been publicly established in the reported information.
Morgan played Hank Loomis, the father of Billy Loomis, portrayed by Skeet Ulrich. In the original film, Hank appears at a police station to defend his son during questioning.
Although his screen time was limited, the character’s personal history became part of the story’s explanation for Billy’s hostility toward Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell.
Hank’s affair with Sidney’s mother, Maureen Prescott, contributed to the breakdown of his marriage to Nancy Loomis, played by Laurie Metcalf. The family conflict provided important context for Billy’s motives. Morgan also appeared in a flashback in Scream 3.
Beyond the horror franchise, Morgan’s acting credits included the film Metro and The Last of His Tribe, as well as television series Nash Bridges and Midnight Caller.
He also had credits in the animated series Æon Flux and the video game The Last Express. Following his death, Morgan’s daughter shared a tribute recalling everyday moments they had enjoyed together.
She wrote about their drives along Mulholland and visits to Starbucks, saying she would miss her father and the poorly timed jokes they shared.
The original Scream launched a franchise that continued with six sequels before Scream 7 arrived in February 2026.
A further installment, Scream 8, is in development, with Lilla and Nora Zuckerman working on the screenplay. No release date has been announced.
