Taylor Swift Announces New Single ‘Patient Zero’

Taylor Swift has announced “Patient Zero,” a new single arriving Sept. 25, marking her first new song since her July wedding to Travis Kelce.

The announcement followed a cryptic countdown on Swift’s official website Tuesday. The clock appeared against a red curtain and ended at 2 p.m. Eastern, prompting fans to look for clues across her social media accounts.

Swift’s Instagram bio added another hint, changing to “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u,” with zeros replacing the letter “o.” The wording appeared to point toward the title eventually revealed on her website.

Swift said the single was available for pre-order for 24 hours. Her website also offered three limited-edition CD versions, featuring a double-sided cover and standard, acoustic and piano versions of the track, with each CD priced at $3.99.

“Patient Zero” follows Swift’s latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which was released last October. She also contributed a song to the “Toy Story 5” soundtrack in June, making the new release her first standalone single since her wedding.

The timing also places the announcement ahead of the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. Swift is scheduled to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors, recognizing artists whose work behind the camera has expanded music-video storytelling.

Swift enters the ceremony with 30 VMA wins, tied with Beyoncé for the most in the show’s history. She has also received nine nominations this year.

The new single follows another recent mystery surrounding Swift’s appearance in a pre-taped Emmy skit, where clues involving her songs and television shows prompted further speculation among fans.
