Kate Middleton and Prince William joined Tom Cruise at the London premiere of Digger on Sept. 22, marking a rare joint red carpet appearance for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The couple attended the world premiere at ODEON Luxe Leicester Square, where they met Cruise and director Alejandro G. Iñárritu alongside members of the film’s cast and creative team.
Kate wore a plum Jenny Packham gown, while William accompanied her for the Royal Film Performance. The event was the 73rd Royal Film Performance in support of the U.K.’s Film and TV Charity.
William, who serves as president of BAFTA, had earlier visited ActOne, an independent cinema in west London, where he met young filmmakers and helped serve popcorn to attendees.
Cruise and the royal couple have previously shared the spotlight. William and Kate joined the actor at the U.K. premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in May 2022, and Cruise later invited William to a private screening of the film after learning that the prince was a fan of the original 1986 movie.
According to People, Cruise said at the 2022 premiere that he and William shared interests including England and flying.
Cruise has also had longstanding connections with the British royal family, having met Princess Diana at the 1992 London premiere of Far and Away. He later attended her funeral in 1997 and met Prince Philip during a 2017 Buckingham Palace dinner.
Digger stars Cruise as “the most powerful man in the world” in what Variety described as a comedy of catastrophic proportions.
The film also features Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy.
The premiere followed a 2024 Royal Film Performance for Gladiator II, which was attended by King Charles. Digger was filmed at Pinewood Studios in Iver Heath, England.
