Jorge Kahwagi Macari, the Mexican businessman, former federal lawmaker and undefeated professional boxer, died Sept. 30, 2026, at 58. His death was publicly confirmed through messages from people close to him.
Kahwagi’s death was announced through tributes from Mexican public figures. Manuel Velasco shared condolences for Kahwagi’s family and friends, while actor and businessman Roberto Palazuelos also posted a farewell message.
His public career crossed several fields. Kahwagi served in Mexican politics while also becoming known for professional boxing and television appearances, including Big Brother VIP.
His unusual combination of political, sporting and entertainment roles made him a recognizable public figure in Mexico.
Kahwagi had previously faced a serious medical emergency in 2019. He underwent emergency treatment after a stomach ulcer perforated and caused peritonitis.
He later said the condition had become complicated by an infection and that the ulcer had not been detected in time.
That episode kept him away from public appearances for an extended period. By October 2019, Kahwagi had publicly discussed his recovery, after which he maintained a considerably lower profile.
Kahwagi entered professional boxing in 2001 and finished his career undefeated. Contemporary boxing records list 12 victories, all by knockout, with his final bout taking place in 2015 against Ramón Olivas in the Philippines.
His boxing career also attracted criticism. The brevity and competitiveness of several bouts prompted questions from boxing observers, while his final fight became particularly controversial.
Kahwagi died Sept. 30, 2026, at age 58. Initial reports confirmed the death but did not establish an official cause, so his earlier medical problems should not be presented as the confirmed reason for his death.
