Eva Marie Saint, the Oscar-winning actress known for On the Waterfront and North by Northwest, died Tuesday at 102 at her Los Angeles home, her publicist said.
Eva Marie Saint, whose career stretched across film and television for decades, died Tuesday at her home in Los Angeles, publicist Jeff Sanderson said. She was 102.
Saint made her movie debut in Elia Kazan’s 1954 drama “On the Waterfront,” playing Edie Doyle opposite Marlon Brando.

The performance earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and established her as a major Hollywood talent.
Five years later, she took on a very different role in Alfred Hitchcock’s “North by Northwest,” portraying Eve Kendall, a sophisticated double agent opposite Cary Grant.
The thriller became one of Hitchcock’s most recognized films and remains among Saint’s defining screen performances.
Her other film credits included “Raintree County,” “Exodus,” “The Sandpiper” and “The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!” She continued working in television and later won an Emmy for the miniseries “People Like Us.”

Saint also maintained a long personal partnership with producer-director Jeffrey Hayden, whom she married in 1951. They remained together until his death in 2016 and had two children.
Saint continued acting into her later years, appearing in films including “Because of Winn-Dixie” and “Superman Returns,” extending a career that began in the early years of television and continued well into her 80s and 90s.
