Sophia Bush and former professional soccer player Ashlyn Harris have revealed they quietly married in an intimate ceremony in upstate New York during the summer of 2025.
Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris have confirmed that they are wife and wife after keeping their wedding out of the public spotlight for more than a year.
The marriage was revealed through Bush’s memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, with Vogue publishing an excerpt from the book on Sept. 30.
The couple chose a small celebration rather than a traditional large wedding. Harris’ children, Sloane and Ocean, attended the ceremony, making the occasion a family event.
Bush recalled the children running around the property, picking flowers and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. The wedding took place in upstate New York in summer 2025.
Bush wore a black velvet dress with gold detailing that she found while searching through belongings at home, while Harris wore a tuxedo.
The couple later shared photographs showing them together outdoors against the countryside and evening light.
How the Wedding Came Together
According to Bush’s memoir, the decision to marry developed privately between the couple. They eventually contacted city hall and completed the legal process before heading upstate with their family.
A close friend, Nia, became part of the ceremony after Bush asked her to get ordained. She agreed and completed the process quickly, allowing her to officiate when the couple gathered with their children.
Bush and Harris also prepared handwritten vows and placed them inside a Mary Oliver book. They exchanged rings during the ceremony, which Bush described as an intimate beginning to their married life.
Bush and Harris began dating in 2023 after knowing each other for years and moving within the same social circles.
Their relationship followed major changes in both of their personal lives, including the end of Harris’ marriage to Ali Krieger and Bush’s separation from Grant Hughes.
The couple have since spoken about their relationship and blended family. In September, Bush appeared publicly with Harris and Sloane and Ocean at the A Sense of Home Gala in New York City.
Memoir Reveals a More Personal Side
The wedding revelation arrives ahead of the release of Bush’s debut memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress.
The book uses the wedding as part of a broader reflection on Bush’s personal journey, relationships and changing understanding of privacy.
Bush also wrote about Harris’ grandparents and the influence their long marriage had on Harris’ view of love and commitment. She said that story helped shape how she understood the relationship she wanted to build with Harris.
Bush and Harris have also been active in LGBTQ+ advocacy. Both serve on the board of the Human Rights Campaign, and Harris has discussed why visibility matters to people who may still feel unable to openly express who they are.
The couple initially went public with their relationship in Bush’s 2024 Glamour cover story. Their 2025 wedding had remained private until the memoir and Vogue excerpt revealed the milestone.
