The 2026 Chicago Air and Water Show’s final day was delayed until noon Sunday as low-lying clouds continued to affect conditions along Chicago’s lakefront.
According to Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, the delay was made to account for low-lying clouds and allow the full program to proceed.
Organizers were coordinating with the Federal Aviation Administration and partners while monitoring weather conditions for safety.
Overnight thunderstorms had moved through the Chicago area early Sunday, while scattered showers and cloudy skies remained. A cold front was expected to bring a drier pattern later in the day.
Saturday’s program was also delayed for nearly two hours because of rain and clouds. Friday’s pilot practice was affected by weather as well.
The free public event remains scheduled along Lake Michigan, with major viewing areas around North Avenue Beach and the lakefront between Fullerton Avenue and Oak Street.
Mayor Brandon Johnson was also expected to attend Sunday. The 2026 lineup features the US Air Force Thunderbirds, US Army Golden Knights and numerous military and civilian aircraft.
