Silo Season 3 Episode 7 finally connects its Before Times storyline to the underground world, revealing the people behind a massive drilling project that appears linked to the silos.
Apple TV+’s Silo has spent three seasons keeping one of its biggest mysteries hidden: who built the enormous underground structures and why humanity eventually ended up living inside them.
Episode 7 provides the clearest indication yet of who initiated the project. The revelation comes through the Before Times storyline involving Congressman Daniel Keene and journalist Helen Drew.
Their investigation began with questions surrounding Daniel’s sister Charlotte and the disastrous Iran mission that left her without her memories.
After being pursued by a mysterious gray haired man and abducted in an autonomous vehicle, Daniel and Helen are taken to Senator Rosalind Thurman.
She introduces them to billionaire Per Stensen, described in the episode as the richest man in the world.
Stensen promises that the pair will finally learn what they have been searching for, but only after they sign non-disclosure agreements.
Daniel eventually agrees, while Helen remains more cautious until Thurman assures them that the project is connected to an effort to save the world.
The group travels to Atlanta before continuing by helicopter to Stensen’s enormous property. He says the land covers approximately 300,000 acres and once consisted of 42 individual farms.
What Daniel and Helen discover there provides the episode’s most important clue.
Huge drilling equipment is operating across the property, digging deep into the ground.
Daniel, whose engineering and architectural background allows him to recognize the machinery, identifies what they are seeing as a very large drill.
The equipment closely resembles the digging machine previously seen deep beneath Silo 18.
Although the episode does not explicitly state that the structures being constructed are the silos, the visual connection strongly establishes that viewers are witnessing the early stages of the project.
That development also changes the significance of Stensen and Thurman’s involvement. Stensen is financing the operation, while Thurman describes herself as a believer in its vision.
Their stated objective is to save the world, although the episode does not yet reveal what catastrophe they believe humanity must survive.
The episode’s present-day storyline raises a separate crisis for Juliette Nichols and the residents of Silo 18.
Lucas Kyle and Patrick Kennedy are sent toward Silo 17 after Juliette argues that survivors there could potentially be rescued. Their mission initially appears to fail when The Algorithm tells Camille Sims that both men have been neutralized.
At the same time, Robert Sims informs Juliette that a memory-suppressing chemical has already entered Silo 18’s water supply.
Bernard Holland then presents a dangerous plan to destroy Judicial, which controls the system distributing the chemical and the outlets capable of releasing toxic gas.
Juliette accepts the risk despite the possibility of significant casualties. However, just before the planned explosions, Patrick contacts the silo and reveals that he and Lucas are still alive.
That moment creates a major question about The Algorithm’s reliability. If it was wrong about their fate, its other warnings and decisions may also deserve closer scrutiny.
For the first time, Silo has connected the mysterious origins of the underground world directly to identifiable figures from the Before Times.
Per Stensen and Senator Thurman now appear central to the creation of the project, while the enormous drilling operation provides the strongest visual link between the past and the silos inhabited centuries later.
The larger mystery, however, remains unresolved: what happened to the world above ground, and why did building the silos become necessary?
Silo Season 3 is currently streaming on Apple TV+, with new episodes released Fridays.
The remaining episodes will determine what the characters discover about the purpose of the project and how its origins connect to the world Juliette knows.
